Game Notes: Ohio - Rochester

The Ohio Machine returns home in hopes of earning its first win of the season when the Rochester Rattlers visit Selby Stadium on Saturday, June 15 at 7:30 PM.

This is the second meeting between the teams, with the Rattlers winning the first matchup 9-7 on June 2, behind three goals from Jordan MacIntosh andJohn Galloway’s 16 saves.

Rochester enters the game with a 3-3 record following consecutive wins over the Machine and the Boston Cannons, whom they defeated 16-14 on June 7 in the first ever MLL game played in Atlanta. The Rochester offense is averaging over 11 goals a game, and is led by attackman Ned Crotty, who has 17 point on seven goals and ten assists. Jordan MacIntosh has shown he is a potent scorer, with all of his points on the season coming from his 14 goals. Veteran midfielder Matt Striebel also adds a deep threat to the Rattlers offense, scoring three two-pointers on the season, to go along with six goals and two assists.

Rochester’s defense has been stingy of late, led by the resurgence of Galloway, who has taken Defensive Player of the Week honors for two straight weeks. Over the last two games, Galloway has given up 10.5 goals per game, while stopping 65 percent of shots faced.

That could pose problems for Ohio’s offense, which has been anything but a well-oiled machine, averaging only 7.3 points per game, and is yet to score in double digits on the season. Steele Stanwick leads the Ohio offense with 14 points from six goals and 8 assists. Joe Cummings has also come on as an offensive threat of late, and now sits second on the team with 11 points. Rookie attackmen Logan Schuss an Marcus Holman have made an immediate impact upon joining the team, with each scoring six points in three appearances.

One recent bright spot for Ohio has been the defense, which has given up only 10.5 goals per game since Brian Phipps took over the duties between the pipes. Phipps has looked very comfortable in cage, saving 58 percent of shots faced

Next, Rochester will continue its roadtrip when it heads north of the border to take on the Hamilton Nationals on Saturday, June 22 at 7:00 PM, in a game that can be viewed exclusively on Youtube. Ohio will also be in action on Saturday, when it travels to Denver to battle the Outlaws in an 8:00 PM game that will be available on CBS Sports Network.
