Team USA Scrimmages at Play for Parkinson's event

Team USA took their 52-man training roster to Alexandria, Va. to compete at the Play for Parkinson’s event this past weekend. The team, comprised mainly of MLL All-Stars, dominated the weekend, playing several college teams and one intra-squad scrimmage.

Offensively, New York Lizards’ Rob Pannell, Ohio Machine’s Marcus Holman and Denver Outlaws’ Eric Law all impressed on attack, while Chesapeake Bayhawks’ Drew Westervelt and Hamilton Nationals’ Garrett Thul led the midfielders. Thul scored five in a 26-4 trouncing of Towson, while the all rookie attack were nearly unstoppable in a 17-6 victory over Loyola.

On defense, it was veterans like Outlaw Lee Zink leading the charge, while Nationals rookie Tucker Durkin proved he’s a viable option for the team with his ability to suck up ground balls. In net, no goalie set themselves ahead of the pack, as Rochester Rattlers’ John Galloway, Lizard Drew Adams, Bayhawk Kip Turner and Outlaw Jesse Schwartzman are all battling for just two spots on the final roster.

Of the 50 MLL players on the Team USA roster, several big names did not participate this weekend. Boston Cannon’s Paul Rabil, and Bayhawks Brendan Mundorf and Matt Mackrides all sat out with minor injuries.

The group of 52 will take the field next from October 18-20, for a practice weekend in Downingtown, Pa. The roster will eventually be trimmed to 23 men who will compete against the MLL All-Stars on June 26 at Harvard Stadium in advance of the 2014 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championships on July 10-19, 2014 in Denver.
